- Is our industry sustainable right now, and if not what do we have to do in the next 10 years to make it sustainable?
- How do we achieve absolute cuts of 60% to 80% of greenhouse gas emissions?
- Are we preparing for peak oil?
- Are we treating environmental concerns as a threat or an opportunity?
- Is carbon neutral with carbon credits such a good idea?
- Are our present competitive advantages environmental liabilities?
- What if we are on the wrong side of the line when it comes to carbon trading?
- Are we being blinded by "quarry vision"?
- Are we preparing for climate change adaption impacts on our industry?
- Does water scarcity effect us?
The discussion around these questions can be found in a research paper published by TALC in 2008. It can be found on the TALC web site under the research tab, or downloaded here.
Copenhagen now makes it imperative that the T&L industry gets ready for climate change without waiting for Government. The market will drive the next moves. Individual companies can do their own thing, but the entire T&L industry is in the game. Not to mention the grandchildren of the people who presently run the companies.
Still - we can always rely on the old saying: "why should we take action on behalf of future generations - after all what have they ever done for us?"
