The 'Transportunity' guide provides a step-by-step Running Sheet to establishing 'Adopt-a-School' (AaS) within the Transport & Logistics (T&L) Industry.

How to play

The guide is designed around the image of a traditional board game, with each step taking one 'board space' as you progress around the board in a clockwise direction (this is why the 'Next' and 'Previous' buttons appear to be pointing in strange directions - a clockwise boardgame navigates from right to left).

The board's centre icons truck ship plane train list a range of activities that might be established under 'Adopt-a-School' relationships.

Moving clockwise from GO...

Step 1 = PLAN
Determine the partners, decide which schools, how many students or youth are to be targeted and what T&L organisations are active in your LOCAL area.

Step 2 = DO
Establish the 'AaS' relationship and advise TALC.  Then instigate an informal meeting with the School's Careers Adviser and/or Principal, as well as the Local Community Partnership (LCP) and the T&L Business.  Then view the T&L business and conduct a risk assessment before deciding on the initial project(s).

Step 3 = CHECK
Reviewing outcomes; What is working?  What can be improved? Are all parties gaining benefits?

Step 4 = ACTION
Is T&L attractive?  Promote the 'AaS' relationship within T&L and the wider community.  Formally measure the impacts.  Seek support to sustain the program.

Please explore the Transportunity website for more detail on all steps.  Navigate via the gameboards, board spaces and buttons provided.  You can always return to this page by clicking on the Information Icon information at the top of each page.

My Freight Careers addressed Yr 10 at Asquith Boys High School, establishing a successful pilot of one Yr11 and eight Yr10 students.  They committed one period of school time and 30 mins of their own time for 5 weeks, learning about Freight Forwarding documentation and gaining work experince and traineeship opportunities.  This included a Customs, Quarantine, Airport & Port excursion via mini-bus.
